| Day 5 (Wednesday, March 5, 2008) - Long Hours & Enamel-Induced Hallucinations |

Marilynn is up to her ears in black enamel paint.

They tell me it’s my turn to write the daily notes...
Wednesday was our longest workday. We arrived at the church work site around 9:00 am and didn’t
leave until 8:30 pm. All of us painted either doors or windows with black enamel, which was hot
and messy work. At the same time, Don Camilo started work on his wonderful flower and bird borders
using bright orange, red and green paints. I can’t wait to see the finished product on Sunday.
At lunchtime, the senora from the church, who lives nearby, brought us beautifully wrapped ham and cheese
sandwiches and cantaloupe water to drink. Unusual, but very refreshing. Later on, she brought a tray of
fruit, and pineapple water for a snack, which we were very grateful for.
During the day, our newly named Fr. Croc (Ralph), saw a bull running down the street.
Sadly, none of us believe him. However, later Marilynn, Dave, and I saw the tail end of a HUGE iguana
as he disappeared down a hole in the wall, and for some reason, Ralph doesn’t believe us!

We finally quit work around 5:00 pm because Fr. Ivan had invited his music students to play for us.
It turned out to be a much bigger deal with the Bishop, Fr. Ralph and Fr. Ivan celebrating a communion service.
(Fr. Ralph was glad that his socks matched his vestments, and his shorts were covered up)! We were so blessed
to have a full church with around 60 people in attendance.
As embarrassed as we were to be sitting there with
our clothes covered in paint, it was a truly a beautiful service. I didn’t understand much of the Bishops
sermon, but he did thank St. Dunstans over and over for the work they have done here in the diocese.
(At one point during the service we were horrified to notice that one of our windows near the altar had a
glaringly large missing strip of paint….hopefully we can fix that on Sunday)!
After the service and the concert, the parishioners laid out a huge spread of food and we had a fiesta
in front of the church. The food was wonderful but a bit different from the Tex-Mex that I am used to.
I have to confess that I was a little worried about feeling bad the next day, but all is well.

The ensemble with Fr. Ivan performs.

If my family is reading this, I want you to know that I miss you, and that I’m alive and well (although
it’s not from a lack of trying)!!!
God’s Peace,
