| Day 7 (Friday March 16, 2007) |
Today I saw God’s presence with us when we asked Fr. Victor
to say a prayer in Spanish. He teared up and couldn’t go
through with the

service. At that
point we realized his tears were tears of joy and he couldn’t express
enough gratitude towards us.
God works miracles all around us. We also witnessed one of the parishioners
named Maria who came to the church dressed in her good clothes.
She insisted on helping the ladies clean up in
the church until she felt faint. Later she returned with a beautiful bowl
of fresh food, which we thoroughly enjoyed. I was so amazed that these
people that have so little have such pure hearts inside. This is truly
God’s work amongst us. I feel privileged to serve God’s children and will
leave this part of the world knowing that we were blessed to have the
opportunity to serve our Lord.
Later on the afternoon, we visited the artisans in the Barrancas: Lydia
and Serafim. I was touched with their story about their lives and the hardships
they experience as a part of that life and I wondered how people with so
little can have so much faith and yet I, who have so much, and yet must work
daily to keep my faith strong.
I was impressed with Serafim working 14 hours
a day getting up at 6 in the morning and coming home at 10 and not being able
to work any more hours in the day because his body was just wearing out.

his income. He has to pay 250 pesos to the taxi company and an additional
150 pesos for fuel before he breaks even. There are days when he has worked
all day and has only broke even. A good day is when he makes a profit of 100 pesos,
equal to about $10.
We’ll get back to you mañana.
