Day 1 (Saturday July 16, 2005)

The St. Dunstan's Mission Team Prepares for the Big Trip
Hola Amigos! We are safe and sound in the Diocesan Center in Cuernavaca. Our trip to and through the airport was quite perfect. Marilynn is very proud. We went through checkpoints, found the Starbucks, and all was right with the world. We experienced a little turbulence and Mandy almost wore Pete´s drink (soft drink). Upon arriving at the airport in Mexico City, we wound our way around to customs, collected our baggage, and loaded onto a Pullman bus for the ride to Cuernavaca which was mostly rainy. We made the trip from there in a suburban and taxis. Cuernavaca is beautiful. It is hilly and everywhere we turn we see flowers, cacti, and interesting architecture. We were welcomed to the DC by the language school students who depart tomorrow. The new bathrooms (thank you St. Dunstan´s) are beautiful and we enjoyed the first showers in them. The potty´s and the sinks are new too, but I will leave that to your imagination. Our Sunday morning was truly blessed with our trip to the Anglican Cathedral. Archdeacon Dena Harrison, in town for language school, led the service and we were invited to participate in

the service. Marilynn and Dixie helped prepare the altar. Dixie read the first reading followed by Mandy leading the reading of the Psalms. Kate did the second reading. Following the sermon, Carl led the Prayers of the People and chaliced for communion. John passed the collection plate. Pete was the honorary usher for the 20 or so congregants. We met an interesting family. The gentleman is a research biologist that is here for six months to study the monogamous volcano mouse. (!!!!) We strolled through the area for a bit before taking taxis back to the Center. Our afternoon was spent with business and planning meetings and a quick run over to see the pyramids. We climbed to the top of the one you see in the picture. The steps are narrow and steep but we made it to the top with only one mishap. Dixie (who most know doesn’t do up) tripped at the top. A couple of bandaids and all was okay. We watch out for each other and for buses and cars that go zipping by. We glory in the community, the people, and the experiences we have already shared. St. Aidan´s and Christ Church have arrived to form our larger community and our paint brushes are ready to start rolling tomorrow.

God be with us.

Dixie Allen
